Back in April 2003, four friends from Deptford in South East London released their debut album, 'Vehicles & Animals', to critical acclaim.  Citing influences such as Grandaddy, The Flaming Lips and Blur, Athlete created a summery, upbeat, quirky indie-pop record full of sing-along choruses that remain firm fan favourites a decade on.  A Mercury Music Prize nomination spurred sales of 'Vehicles & Animals' on and it went from silver to gold within two weeks and has long since surpassed platinum status.

Since those early days, the band went on to sell more than a million copies of their four studio albums (the other three being 'Tourist', 'Beyond The Neighbourhood' and 'Black Swan'); packed out venues across the land; picked up an Ivor Novello award; and topped the UK's album and airplay charts.

The four members of Athlete are currently focusing on ventures outside of the band but decided that the 10th anniversary of their debut album couldn't pass without celebration.  This short run of UK shows will be their first tour in two years and will see them play the whole of the album including the singles 'You Got The Style', 'Westside', 'Beautiful' and 'El Salvador'.  You can also expect a selection of other hits such as 'Wires', 'Half Light', 'Superhuman Touch' plus a few surprises.

11 May - Manchester, The Ritz

12 May - Birmingham, O2 Academy 2

]]> Music Athlete Tue, 27 November 2012 00:00:00 +0100 http://www.blackswanalbum.com/vehicles-animals-10th-anniversary-tour Wimbledon apology http://www.blackswanalbum.com/wimbledon-apology For many people our gig on Sunday evening  at The Prophecy in Wimbledon was a huge disappointment.  When the venue was changed from Henry J Beans to The Prophecy we were assured that the venue and PA were suitable but sadly they weren't. The lucky ones nearer the front were able to hear and see well and we trust you had a great evening.  However people further back were clearly unable to see or hear properly.  In all our years of touring we have never had a situation like this and are really upset that you did not receive value for the money you spent on tickets.  

We asked the promoter yesterday for a statement in response to the complaints we have received but we have not received one so far.  However, they have said that they are willing to offer refunds to those of you who were dissatisfied.
